Did your REI Adventures Trip get canceled? Have no fear! A Walk in the Woods is here!
Since 2007, A Walk in the Woods had been an REI Adventures partner. We ran all of their trips in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for many years. After great success in the Smokies, we then expanded our offerings to Pisgah National Forest and Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. We are also permitted to operate in the Everglades and Biscayne National Parks and will soon be running trips in Shenandoah National Park.
A Walk in the Woods is a full range guide service. We offer everything from shuttle service and trip planning to day hikes to multi-night adventure trips. You can find our multi-night backpacking trips here: Guided Backpacking and Multisport. If you do not see what you are looking for, we also offer custom trips. These trips are private to you and your group.
Our Smokies Classic and Smokies Classic Women’s are the same as the Great Smoky Mountains – Appalachian Trail and Beyond and our Intro to Backpacking -Smokies Basecamp is the same as Great Smoky Mountains Backpacking – Basecamp.

Currently, in house, we only offer private trips on our camp and do not have prescheduled dates available. We would be happy to chat about a private custom trip for your group.
If you still don’t see exactly what you are looking for, we have partnered with MT Sobek. They have taken on all of our REI Adventures inventory and, for 2025, will be running all of the same itineraries and trip dates. This applies to all trips in the Smokies, Pisgah National Forest, Big South Fork, Shenandoah and the Everglades.
